American Express partners with Uber to introduce new card benefits

Great news for American Express Green, Gold, and Platinum cardholders.

Today, American Express and Uber announced some huge new benefits for American Express Green, Gold, and Platinum cardholders. The full press release is available here.

On a related note: Earlier this month, Chase Sapphire cardholders received complimentary Grubhub+ thanks to a new Lyft and Grubhub partnership.

What’s changing?

Effective today, Amex Green, Gold, and Platinum cardholders now receive up to 12 months of complimentary Eats Pass membership from Uber Eats, which includes:

  • Free delivery on restaurant orders over $15
  • Free delivery on grocery deliveries over $30 (select markets)
  • 5% discount on all orders
  • Free order cancelations

Eats Pass regularly costs $10/mo, making this a $120 value for cardholders. Additionally, the Amex Gold is receiving a huge upgrade, with $120 in annual Uber Cash credit ($10/mo), which can be redeemed for Uber rides or Uber Eats orders.

Final thoughts

This is obviously fantastic news for cardholders, but particularly for those who have the Amex Gold. The Amex Gold was already one of my favorite cards, and this cements it as an absolute must-have for anyone who values Membership Rewards, thanks to its fantastic earning rates on dining, grocery, and air travel. This news, combined with the spectacular 60,000 point sign-on bonus (via my referral link) currently being offered, makes it arguably the most compelling card to get right now.
